  • How do I apply?
    Apply for the incubator or the accelerator program through the same online application. The 2025 program applications will be made available in Fall 2025. In the meantime please submit an interest form.
  • What if I don’t live in the Denver, Colorado area?
    It is not a requirement that you or your company are located in Denver to participate. The majority of the curriculum for Smart Futures Lab programming will be delivered virtually and recorded, so physical presence is not essential. However, use of the 5G lab and other collaboration spaces available to participants would require at least temporary travel to Denver to maximize the value of the program.
  • Can I apply from outside of the United States?
    Yes! We encourage international companies to apply, but they need to be prepared to do business in the United States.
  • How much is the cost?/Do you take an equity share?
    The incubator and accelerator programs are free for companies accepted into the program, and we do not take any equity share.
  • Do I need business experience to apply?
    No, but we do consider your business experience in the application process. New entrepreneurs are welcome to apply.
  • Do I need to be a member of the New Majority (women, BIPOC, people with disabilities) to apply?
    No. Any person or company is welcome to apply.
  • What is a Smart City?
    A true smart city uses innovation and technology to improve quality of life.Through smart city technology, it helps improve urban life and makes city operations run more efficiently. This requires partnership with local government, like city and state officials.
  • What is a smart cities company?
    Smart cities companies are trying to solve a social issue (traffic safety, accessibility, climate change) using innovation, technology or data. Additionally, the government is involved in the implementation of their solutions, products or services.
  • What is 5G?
    5G is the fifth generation of cellular (wireless) networks, which is an evolution from 4G that is currently widely used today. 5G provides transformational changes to how things connect to the internet wirelessly, and it provides a tremendous new tool for cities to communicate with things in an urban environment in real-time.
  • Do I need to speak English?
    We plan to deliver content virtually using platforms that can translate different languages, so multiple people can participate whether they speak English or not. However, we are looking to work with companies that are wanting to do business in the United States, which does require at least one company leader speaking proficient English.
  • Do I have to commit to the entire program?
    Yes, we expect companies to participate for the entire program curriculum.
  • When does the program start and end?
    The incubator and accelerator program will begin in March each year and end in October. The program is 6 months long.
  • What is the application process?
    A review committee of eight industry leaders including the Advisory Council will evaluate applications based on which companies are most likely to benefit from the program. Factors they will take into consideration include: How mature is the company? Is the solution, product or service in alignment with smart cities? What is the potential of the company to grow and create jobs? What experience does the company or entrepreneur have? How is the company considering equity in their company? Can this company benefit from the program? How can this company benefit Colorado?
